Nesting Curvy Squares Die Set - Creative Ideas and Tutorial
(Video captions)
The set includes eight double-stitched dies ranging up to 5.4".
In this video, we share a few creative ways to use the set, and we hope it inspires you to create something beautiful.
Our first creative option is a 3D hanging ornament, which is very easy to create.
Just pick the die size you want, die cut six pieces, fold each one in half, and glue them to each other.
Make a hole at the top edge and attach your ribbon or string.
You can use as many panels as you like (with a minimum of three). The more pieces you add, the fuller and more beautiful the ornament becomes.
Here we used the set to create another ornament - a festive layered one, using all the dies in the set.
Punch a hole in the middle of each panel, layer them from largest to smallest, insert a brad, and secure it. Then make another hole at the top and insert your ribbon.
The advantage of using a brad instead of glue is that you can rotate the die cuts and choose between a symmetrical arrangement or a flower-like design.
Here is another idea, a decorative layered card front, and the possibilities are endless.
The next project is one of our favorites. A layered pop-up card that can either fit into an envelope or stand on its own as a decoration (This project was inspired by Sam Calcott’s star card design.)
Choose the size you want from the set and cut all the layers in the colors you love.
Die cut the largest panel twice, because it will also become your back stand.
Fold it at about one-third of its height, then attach the folded panel to the back of the second panel to create the standing base.
For the springs, use cardstock strips sized 2 1/2" x 1".Score them at 1/2", 3/4", and 1", then turn the strip and score again.
Fold along the score lines, glue the strip closed, and attach it between the card layers.
In the following two projects, we used the set to create decorative frames for 6" x 6" shaker cards.
In the first one, we used the green-stitched negative side of the largest die as the card border/matting, and the red-stitched frame as the window frame (created by nesting the two largest dies and cutting them together).
For the second shaker card, we used four connected dies and two different cardstock colors to create a special multi-frame design.
With this design, you can create two cards at the same time, each one with a different arrangement of frames and negatives.
This design can also be used to create special matting for cards or album layouts, using both the frame and the inner piece.
Make sure the cardstock you use for the frames and the negative piece is sized to 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", so the negative can work as a border on a 6" x 6" card.
For the shaker card, use a 6" x 6" card base and place foam tape along the edges. Remove the backing from the foam tape and add another layer on top to create enough height.
Cut a piece of clear acetate to 5 3/4" x 5 3/4", matching the size of the negative frame we cut earlier, and adhere the negative frame on top. Make sure to wipe away any excess glue.
Now adhere the remaining frames you cut, one after the other, in the correct order of sizes and colors.
Sprinkle the sequins you chose for the shaker inside the foam tape frame.
Carefully remove the backing from the foam tape along one edge of the card, so you can align the shaker window before removing the rest of the backing.
Once it is aligned, remove the remaining backing and secure the shaker window to the card.
Thank you for watching. We hope this video inspires you to create something beautiful with this set.
Enjoy!
